‘People were successful at raising their positive mood as long as the music they listened to was happy and upbeat,’ said Dr Yuna Ferguson
Ever notice how music can affect your mood? One minute your dancing around to “Happy” by Pharrell Williams, and the next moment you listen to “Everybody Hurts” and you start feeling sad. This is because when we listen to music, it’s processed in many different areas of our brain, causing us to react to the beats, lyric and rythem of the song.
When we listen to music the makes us feel great, the brain increases the neurotransmitter dopamine. This is the brains “motivational molecule”, the same brain chemical released when eating chocolate, reaching orgasm, or a runners high.
Next time you find yourself feeling down and want a lift, play some positive upbeat music, soon enough you’ll see yourself in a happier state.

Have a fantastic Weekend Everyone!
